The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government’s representative office in Canada, announced today (Thursday) that Miss Gloria Lo, a senior civil servant of over 20 years, will assume the office of the Director on Monday, August 8, 2011, succeeding her predecessor Ms Maureen Siu, who has since returned to Hong Kong after 3-1/2 years of outstanding service in Canada.
In her first public speech in Toronto today, Miss Lo pledged to work diligently to further develop closer economic, commercial and other ties between Hong Kong and Canada; and to promote Hong Kong as an indispensable and unique bridge for Canadian companies doing business in Mainland China and Asia.
Outgoing HKETO Director, Ms Siu, told a packed farewell luncheon that she was thankful for the strong and unfailing support that she had received during her posting here from the eight major Canadian-Chinese business associations in the Greater Toronto Area. She also recalled some successful business and cultural events that the HKETO had sponsored, including the benefit concerts in Toronto and Ottawa by the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra in support of the fund-raising campaign by the Canadian veterans who helped defend Hong Kong at the beginning of the Second World War.
The new Director, Miss Lo, joined the Hong Kong Government in 1989 and served as an Administrative Officer in 1996. She has worked in the Civil Services Bureau, Shum Shui Po District Office and Financial Services Bureau. Before this new appointment, Miss Lo served as the Principal Assistant Secretary for the Food and Health Bureau, responsible for the policy matters on public hospital services.
Miss Lo received her Master Degree in Personal Management and Business Administration in the United Kingdom and her Bachelor Degree in Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
