Miss Gloria Lo, a senior civil servant of over 20 years, is now the new Director of the Toronto-based Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO), which is the official representative of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in Canada.

Miss Lo assumed office in August, succeeding her predecessor Ms Maureen Siu, who has since returned to Hong Kong after 3-1/2 years of outstanding service in Canada.

In her first public speech upon her arrival, Miss Lo pledged to work diligently to further develop closer economic, commercial, and other ties between Hong Kong and Canada; and to promote Hong Kong as an indispensable and unique bridge for Canadian companies doing business in Mainland China and Asia.

The new Director, Miss Lo, joined the Hong Kong Government in 1989 and started as an Administrative Officer in 1996. She has worked in the Civil Services Bureau, Home Affairs Department, and Financial Services Bureau. Before coming to Toronto, Miss Lo served as the Principal Assistant Secretary for the Food and Health Bureau, responsible for policy matters on public hospital services and the development of private medical industry.

Miss Lo received her Master Degree in Personnel Management and Business Administration in the United Kingdom and her Bachelor Degree in Science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
