The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in Canada, in association with the Canadian Association of Journalists, today (Dec. 3) announced the result of the Dateline Hong Kong Fellowship 2003, an annual program for Canadian journalists to acquaint themselves with Hong Kong.

The winners of the 2003 Fellowship are Toronto's Melissa Leong of The Toronto Star and Vancouver�s Petti Fong of Vancouver Sun.

The two winners were selected based on the strength of their applications, which included story proposals and confirmation from their supervisors that their work would be published or broadcast upon their return to Canada. Projects can concentrate on any area of life in Hong Kong, including, but not limited to business, trade, politics, infrastructure development, tourism, housing, education, culture and environment. Funding for this annual project comes from the Hong Kong SAR Government.

The two fellowship winners will travel to Hong Kong for a week. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Canada will help arrange for the two fellowship winners to visit various points of interest, and meet with people of diverse views, and cultural backgrounds, such as politicians, corporate CEOs and senior government officials.

The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office is the official representative of the HKSAR Government in Canada. The Office is responsible for the economic, commercial, and public relations interests of Hong Kong across Canada.

The Canadian Association of Journalists is a professional organization with 1,300 members across Canada. The CAJ's primary roles are public interest advocacy work and professional development for its members.
