HKETO to take successful exhibition to Vancouver

Press Release - February 5, 2002

In celebration of the Chinese New Year and to showcase the rapid transition of Hong Kong in the past 50 years, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, Canada (HKETO) will present the widely-acclaimed Living in Hong Kong Past and Present photo exhibition in Greater Vancouver this month.

Jointly organised by the HKETO and the Chinese Cultural Centre for Greater Vancouver (CCC), the exhibition which illustrates Hong Kongs recent developments in the past five decades, is expected to further enhance the already close cultural link between the two cities.

Following its successes in Toronto and Calgary, we would like to bring this unique photo exhibition to Vancouver so that the local community can appreciate the rapid developments and the culture of Hong Kong, Asias world city. Hong Kong, as a place where East meets West, has a distinctively rich and diversified cultural life, which complements its unrivalled position as an international financial center and regional logistics hub in the Asia Pacific Region, Mrs Rosanna Ure, Director of HKETO said today (February 5).

The invaluable collection of some 80 nostalgic and modern photographs depicts life in Hong Kong from the 1950s to the present day. Arranged under the themes of 'Dressing', 'Eating','Living'and 'Commuting', the exhibition will be displayed at the To-Yick Wong Gallery, Museum and Archives Building at 555 Columbia Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Tuesday to Sunday from February 9 to 24.

Other than the admission fees to the CCCs museums, there will be no charge for visits to the photo exhibition at the Gallery. To celebrate the Chinese New Year, there will be free admission to the exhibition on February 12,13 and 14 as well as on every Tuesday. In addition, a total of 500 free tickets are to be distributed to those who are interested to view the exhibits on a first come first serve basis.
