'Hong Kong and Calgary - Cities of Dynamism' to be staged in Chinook Centre in mid-February

January 22, 2003
A large scale Hong Kong promotional program featuring a photo exhibition on Hong Kong's infrastructure projects and a Chinese Spring Lantern Festival will be staged at Calgary's Chinook Centre in mid-February.

Jointly presented by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO) and Fairchild Media Group, the 'Hong Kong and Calgary - Cities of Dynamism' will be the first promotional effort organized by the HKETO in 2003 to promote closer ties between Hong Kong and Calgary.

Announcing this today (January 22), the Director of the HKETO, Mrs Rosanna Ure, said that both Hong Kong and Calgary are cities of dynamism and through the forthcoming promotion, the organizers would like to update the Calgary community with Hong Kong's latest developments, particularly in areas of cultural ties and business opportunities.

'Hong Kong and Calgary - Cities of Dynamism' is comprised of a 'Building a Dynamic Hong Kong' photo exhibition, which showcases the city's major infrastructure achievements in the past five years and the exciting plans for the next decade with a total investment of C$120 billion on some 1,600 projects. The exhibition, which will be launched on February 14, will be on public display from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm daily at Chinook Centre from February 15 to 25.

Mrs Ure said: 'The exhibition outlines the excellent business opportunities for Canadian companies in Calgary. In fact, many Calgarian companies are very interested in doing business with Hong Kong and through Hong Kong with China. By presenting them with our infrastructure plans for the next ten years, I hope that they would seize these opportunities as they arise.'

The other component of 'Hong Kong and Calgary - Cities of Dynamism' is a Chinese Spring Lantern Festival. Staged at the Chinook Centre, the Chinese Spring Lantern Festival will feature beautifully decorated Chinese spring lanterns and many traditionally Chinese cultural performances from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm on February 14. There will also be riddle quiz and games stalls where prizes will be given out to winners.

A live radio show presented by Fairchild Radio will also be held from 12:00 noon to 4:00 pm the next day (February 15) during which the host DJs will play games with the public at Chinook Centre to test their knowledge about Hong Kong and its close ties with Calgary. The winner of the overall grand prize will get a Hong Kong-Calgary return air ticket.
