The launch of "Hong Kong Week" in Edmonton officially began on Saturday (March 17) at the "A Touch of Hong Kong" gala when Mayor Stephen Mandel presented a proclamation plaque to the event organisers.

"Hong Kong Week", the first to be staged in Edmonton, is held to recognise the relationship between Alberta's capital city and Hong Kong which offers tremendous opportunities for the exchange of ideas and opportunities in areas of culture, business, education and tourism. It also signifies the long established and active relationship the City of Edmonton has with Hong Kong.

A series of business, outreach and community events are staged in the city of Edmonton during the "Hong Kong Week" to further enhance the understanding of local community about the vibrancy of Hong Kong, Asia's world city.

The Hong Kong Week activities are organized by the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (Edmonton Section), the 97 Street and Area Business Association, the Photographic Arts Society of Alberta and the Metro Cinema Society, with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and the Hong Kong Tourism Board.
