The exceptional recipes from nine provinces in South China and the two Special Administrative Regions of Hong Kong and Macau, to be presented at the “Bauhinia Gala” on June 15, were unveiled today (Thursday) in Toronto by renowned Hong Kong and Canadian chefs.

In attendance to discuss the gala’s exclusive “9 + 2” menu developed to represent nine provinces, namely: Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou, Hunan, Guangxi, Guangdong, Jiangxi, Fujian and Hainan; and Hong Kong and Macau, were legendary Toronto Chinese chef Susur Lee, Chinese chef Edward Leung and Chef Angelo Fernandes of the Metro Toronto Convention Centre. Award-winning Hong Kong Executive Chef Mak Kip Fu of Tang Court, Langham Hotel, will be flying in from Hong Kong to supervise the preparation of the gala dinner. The Hong Kong chef’s visit to Toronto is sponsored by the Hong Kong Tourism Board.

The “Bauhinia Gala”, organized by the Centre for Information and Community Services of Ontario (CICS), and supported by the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada, will serve as a fundraiser for the Immigrant Resource Centre to be built by the CICS.

Speaking at today’s press conference, the Director of the HKETO and Honorary Chair of the Bauhinia Gala, Mr Bassanio So, announced the latest additions to the Gala’s patrons, including Ambassador LU Shumin of the People’s Republic of China; Senator Vivienne Poy; and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.

Apart from the unique menu, some of Hong Kong’s most popular celebrity entertainers will be performing at the event, and Miss Hong Kong Aimee Chan will be one of the MCs. The Gala will take place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on June 15. Proceeds of the Gala will go to the Immigrant Resource Centre’s capital fund.
