During the “Meet the Students’ session with more than 100 Hong Kong students studying in universities in southern Ontario, the visiting Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, Mr John Tsang, today (Sunday) encouraged them to explore career opportunities in Hong Kong in view of the latest economic development of the city.
Secretary Tsang told the group that the challenges arising from the economic co-operation between Hong Kong and mainland China have created many career opportunities for graduates from Canadian universities who are well-versed in English and Chinese. He also discussed about the advantages and disadvantages of overseas students when competing with local Hong Kong students in the job market.
Students participating in the gathering were from six universities in southern Ontario, namely: University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, Queen’s University, York University and McMaster University.
During his three-day visit to Toronto, Secretary Tsang will deliver a keynote speech on “Hong Kong – New Era, New Opportunities” at a luncheon hosted by the Toronto Board of Trade tomorrow (Monday), where he will give an update to Canadian business leaders on the economic outlook of Hong Kong, before leaving for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Meeting in Santiago, Chile, early next week.
