Photo Caption 1 - October 29, 2004 (Photo 1) : Picture shows Vice-Chancellor Professor Lap-Chee Tsui of the University of Hong Kong speaking today (Friday) to over 200 guests at a Canadian Club luncheon in Toronto. The speech is entitled The New Silk Road: A Renaissance of Asian Development. Professor Tsui says HKU has become a focal point of intellectual and academic endeavours in Hong Kong, China and Asia. He shares his vision of how the University is now perfectly positioned to be the preeminent gateway (or the smart link) and forum for the exchange of scholarship between China and the rest of the world.
Apart from visiting alumni chapters and university partners across the United States and Canada (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Toronto and Vancouver) between late October and early November, Professor Tsui is invited to speak at luncheons for the academic and community sectors. He has just received two medical awards from the Chinese Hospital and the American Physicians Society respectively in the United States. The six-member HKU delegation includes Professor C F Lee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor K M Cheng, Senior Advisor to Vice-Chancellor and Visiting Professor of Education at Harvard University, and Ms Bernadette Tsui, Director of Development & Alumni Affairs Office.
The Toronto luncheon was co-organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, and the Hong Kong University Alumni Association of Ontario.
