Dozens of dignitaries from Canada’s three levels of government and foreign consulates today (Saturday) gathered at the Milliken Park in Scarborough to officiate at the 13th annual KiteFest, which is one of the celebrations held in Canada to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
This year’s KiteFest featured an “aquarium” of award-winning and one-of-a-kind marine animal kites, including gigantic clownfish, manta ray, seahorse, lobster and octopus kites, with kite-flying teams from France, the Unites States and Canada taking part. This annual admission-free kite festival is the largest of its kind in Canada, attracting over 80,000 people from North America and overseas.
As one of the sponsors of the event, Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (HKETO) in Canada staged a photo exhibition jointly produced by HKSAR Government’s Information Services Department and the Chinese Ministry of Culture, featuring Hong Kong as a diverse and fascinating city. The display showcased Hong Kong’s achievements in the past 10 years – as a dynamic and enterprising city, a leading centre of regional and international trade and finance, and a fusion of east and west, traditional and modern.
