The
election of the fourth-term Hong Kong Legislative Council (LegCo)
held in September saw 30 members returned by geographical
constituencies in direct elections and 30 by functional
constituencies representing professional groups. The Democratic
Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong is the biggest party in
the Legislature (10 seats), followed by the Democratic Party
(eight seats), and the Civic Party (five seats).
Commenting on the LegCo Election, Secretary for Constitutional and
Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, said LegCo in the next four
years would play a crucial role in determining the electoral
methods for returning the Chief Executive and the LegCo in 2012.
The legislature will also be playing an extremely important role
in reflecting people's views about livelihood, economic and social
issues. |
