To tie in with the theme of the World Exposition 2010 in
Shanghai, and to highlight Hong Kong's quality city life and
leading position as a creative capital, Hong Kong has adopted
the theme of "Hong Kong – A City with Unlimited Potential" for
its pavilion at the Shanghai Expo.
Located near Nanhuan Road in Pudong, the Hong Kong Pavilion is
being built on a stand-alone site, close to the China Pavilion
and adjacent to the Macau Pavilion. It has an exhibition area of
about 800 square metres.
Shanghai Expo, to be held from May 1 to October 31 next year,
will include a new element – the Urban Best Practices Area (UBPA)
– that will underscore the Expo theme of "Better City, Better
Life". UBPA exhibits have been chosen on a competitive basis.
Hong Kong's proposal "Smart Card, Smart City, Smart Life",
highlighting the extensive use of smart card technology, was
accepted by the selection committee. As a result, Hong Kong has
been allocated an additional area of 530 square metres in Puxi
for the exhibition.
Hong Kong's participation in the Shanghai Expo "will provide a
valuable opportunity to showcase our characteristics and
strengths, and promote our broader commercial interests to
international audiences," said Mr Joshua Law, Permanent
Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs.
The construction of the Hong Kong Pavilion started in April. The
process is expected to take 11 months to complete. The
three-level pavilion structure will have a sleek, contemporary
look. The middle level is mostly transparent, giving it a
distinctive image that symbolizes the infinite imagination and
creativity of Hong Kong people.
During the Expo, extensive promotional activities and cultural
programs will feature Hong Kong's quality city life, diverse
culture and creative industry's achievements.
A virtual pavilion, part of "Expo Shanghai Online", will promote
and publicize the Hong Kong Pavilion and UBPA Exhibition, and
provide an interactive platform where visitors can enjoy a
virtual Expo experience.
Meanwhile, an exhibition staged by the Hong Kong SAR Government
last October on Hong Kong's participation in World Expo 2010 was
awarded an international design accolade – the German-based
"iFCommunication Design Award". |
