HKETO Director promotes Hong Kong’s career opportunities

Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Toronto) (HKETO), Ms Emily Mo, promoted Hong Kong’s career opportunities for university graduates at a student session held by the University of British Columbia (UBC) on April 24.

Delivering an opening address, Ms Mo highlighted the vast opportunities, favourable tax environment and vibrant lifestyle that the city offers to students and young talents alike.

Ms Mo said that Hong Kong ranks as the second freest as well as the seventh most competitive economy globally and enjoys the world's leading public transport system. The city also stands as the second-largest trading market for contemporary arts, making it a hub for creative talents across various sectors.

“Being part of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Hong Kong’s special status allows it to be the super connector between the other countries and the mainland of China, also as the stepping stone to other Asian countries and the international arena,” she said.

Ms Mo also mentioned the simple and low tax system in Hong Kong, its vibrant lifestyle, as well as the rich cultural scene and dynamic events calendar. She encouraged those interested in exploring opportunities in Hong Kong not to miss the chance.

In closing, Ms Mo emphasized the strong ties between Hong Kong and Canada, both in trade and people-to-people connections. With over 300,000 Canadians residing in Hong Kong, newcomers can easily integrate into the community, supported by initiatives offered by the Hong Kong Talent Engage, which assists with visa applications, settlement and job search.

Joined by students in-person and online, the hybrid student session was organised by UBC's Faculty of Creative and Critical Studies (FCCS) (Okanagan Campus) in partnership with the Department of Asian Studies. Other guest speakers included Mr Christopher Chen, Head of Invest Hong Kong (Canada); Dr Annie Wan, Associate Professor of FCCS; and Steve Chevalier, Culture and Education Specialist of the Consulate-General of Japan in Vancouver.
