AO Recruitment Receives Good Response

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government (HKSARG) in its current recruitment exercise for Administrative Officers has received 2,307 applications from both local and overseas, one week before the closing date.

Of the applications, 61 candidates indicated their preference to take their examinations in Toronto and Vancouver.

During the first round of the recruitment exercise in June 2000, the SAR Government received 5,823 applications of which 224 were from Toronto and Vancouver.

"Response to the latest recruitment exercise shows that young and talented applicants are keen to find a challenging and meaningful career in the civil service of the HKSARG.

"They also see good prospects for promotion which may take them to the directorate rank or even become heads of departments," Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Canada, Mrs. Rosanna Ure, said.

Mrs. Ure is currently conducting a series of career talks in major Canadian cities, encouraging prospective applicants to return to Hong Kong to pursue a career in the civil service.

After conducting talks at universities in southern Ontario and Alberta, she will begin another round of presentations to students at the University of British Columbia, University of Victoria and Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, early next week.
