Press Release - August 14 1998
All Services Returning to Normal at Hong Kong's New Airport
All services at the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok were approaching a high level of efficiency.
On Thursday, the main air cargo franchisee, Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd. (HACTL), announced its resumption of all outbound and inbound air cargo services at the new airport. This means that full air cargo operations are being conducted, although HACTL will continue to process cargo at both SuperTerminal 1 at the new airport and Terminal 2 at Kai Tak, the old airport. The company expects to transfer all operations to SuperTerminal 1 by the end of August.
Passenger services throughout the past week continued to maintain levels of efficiency equal to or better than at Kai Tak. Three quarters of flights were leaving on time or within 15 minutes of schedule. Almost all arriving passengers were clearing immigration within 15 minutes, and the average waiting time for their bags was 11 minutes.
The figures show that the new Hong Kong International Airport is achieving a high level of efficiency that matches any major international airports.
