All services returning to normal at Hong Kong's new airport
All services at the new Hong Kong International Airport at Chek Lap Kok are returning to normal, with full air cargo operations conducting at SuperTerminal 1 from Monday, August 24.
"This is a week ahead of the earlier target of transferring all operations to SuperTerminal 1 by the end of August," said a spokesman for the Hong Kong Economic & Trade Office in Toronto, which represents the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government in Canada.
"With full recovery of the air cargo operation at the new airport, we are confident that Hong Kong will continue to be a major air cargo centre in the world," the spokesman said.
Passenger services at the new airport throughout the past week continued to maintain levels of efficiency equal to or better than at the former Kai Tak International Airport. Three quarters of flights were leaving on time or within 15 minutes of schedule. Almost all arriving passengers were clearing immigration within 15 minutes, and the average waiting time for their bags was 11 minutes.
