Relocation of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's Airport

The relocation of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region's (SAR) international airport from Kai Tak to Chek Lap Kok will be carried out overnight on July 5-6.

This is a major land and sea operation involving the deployment of a large convoy of vehicles and a fleet of barges to transport machines and equipment to the new airport which will be fully operational from July 6.

Arrangements are being made to facilitate media coverage by both the local and overseas reporters. However, in order to assist in the preparation of these arrangements, media representatives are requested to register in advance if they wish to cover the relocation. (Registration form on page 2.)

Detailed arrangements will be announced later and the registered reporters will be asked to opt to cover the relocation from the various press positions that will be available, such as at Kai Tak, Chep Lap Kok and transit points.
