Hong Kong SAR Secretary of IT and Broadcasting to visit Vancouver

The Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting, Mr. K.C. Kwong, will lead a Hong Kong IT delegation to attend the Softworld '99 conference in Vancouver.

He will arrive on November 4 evening, following a visit to San Francisco and Seattle. During his stay he will speak at several seminars, visit IT companies and meet with officials and business people in the IT field.

On Friday, Mr. Kwong will be the guest speaker at a luncheon meeting, organised by the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, Vancouver Section. He will also give interviews to the mainstream and Chinese newspaper and television/radio reporters.

Mr. Kwong will also be the keynote speaker at an IT seminar entitled "IT in the 21st Century: A New Dimension" held at a downtown hotel on November 6.

Other speakers at the forum, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council; include Hong Kong Productivity Council CEO, Mr. Thomas Tang; Chairman of Information & Software Industry Association, Mr. C.S. Ng; Hong Kong IT Alliance Ltd. CEO, Mr. Ringo Chan and Norsat International Inc. President & CEO, Mr. Robert Bucher.

Mr. Kwong will give remarks at the opening of Softworld '99 on November 7 to update the participants on the latest IT/telecommunications developments in Hong Kong and the business opportunities awaiting them.

Mr Kwong will hold meetings with the Secretary of State for Science, Research and Development, Mr. Gilbert Normand and Deputy Industry Minister, Mr. Kevin Lynch.

During his visit, Mr. Kwong will tour the facilities of Electronic Arts, ISM[BC], Mainframe Entertainment and Sierra Wireless, and meet with several CEOs/senior representatives of Teleglobe and IBM Canada.

Mr. Kwong is due to leave Vancouver on November 9.
