AIG Hong Kong listing set to raise up to US$20 billion The American International Group is in advanced preparations for a listing of its flagship Asian life assurance unit in Hong Kong, forecast to raise billions of dollars that will be used to start repaying the more than US$80 billion that the company owes the U.S. government, according to the Financial Times. The Hong Kong IPO of American International Assurance, which could file a prospectus before the year-end, is expected to raise between US$10 billion to US$20 billion in what would be one of the worldˇ¦s largest IPOs. |
Hudson's Bay and Li & Fung announce global sourcing partnership Hong Kong-based global consumer goods exporter Li & Fung Limited and the Hudson's Bay Trading Company announced a global sourcing strategic partnership for the Canadian groupˇ¦s four main retail banners -- the Bay, Zellers, Home Outfitters and Lord & Taylor. According to the Hudson's Bay, the consolidation of the company's global sourcing requirements and activities into one North American shared services group with a best-in-class partner will accelerate the company's overall business strategy to integrate and improve operating effectiveness of each of the retail brand merchandising entities. The new buying agency arrangement with Li & Fung will go into effect in 2010. |
Canadian "Wines to Go" Opens its first retail outlet in Hong Kong Canada-based Wines to Go Ltd has just entered one of Asia's most vibrant wine markets with the opening of its first retail shop in Hong Kong last week at the Mong Kok subway station concourse. It was described as a positive reaction to the wine duty exemption and various other wine industry supportive measures introduced by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Wines to Go Ltd aims to bring a fresh and exciting selection of fine wines from around the world into Hong Kong and the Asia region. The company's goal is to open up the market to wines other than Bordeaux and to let consumers discover other quality wines at competitive prices in an open and attractive space where wines are featured based on their style and taste profiles. |
HK "is the best" for courses on Mainland affairs An article in Hong Kong's South China Morning Post said the city's MBA programmes are second to none and offer students valuable insights into regional issues. It said as the world increasingly looks towards Mainland China as the future of economic prosperity and political dominance, Hong Kong's business schools are rapidly positioning themselves as the best destination for students. These schools are ideal for anyone looking for an MBA programme that can give them the kind of exposure to mainland business that courses in other parts of the world simply cannot match. Meanwhile, Hong Kong's growing image as a centre of excellence for business education has been reflected in recent global university league tables, with some of the city's universities breaking in to the top 200, and the University of Hong Kong moving up into the top 20 of the respected Times Higher Education Supplement league table. |
Hong Kong Government invites expressions of interest in development of private hospitals The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government invited expressions of interest (EOI) from overseas parties, including Canadian, in developing private hospitals at sites in Wong Chuk Hang, Tseung Kwan O, Tai Po and Lantau. Deadline for submitting the EOI is March 31, 2010. The EOI exercise aims to address the imbalance between Hong Kong's public and private sectors in hospital services, as well as to ensure the city's healthcare system can continue to provide quality healthcare services to the public, and to cope with the increasing service demand. Canadian companies invited to submit design ideas for Boundary Crossing Facilities of Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge International companies, including those in Canada, engaging in the field of architecture, planning and engineering, as well as general public, are invited to submit their innovative ideas and concepts for the design and construction of the Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities (HKBCF) of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB). The HKBCF is an important part of the HZMB's construction works within Hong Kong territory ˇV it will fit in with the Hong Kong Link Road, Tuen Mun-Chek Lap Kok Link and Tuen Mun Western Bypass to form a strategic road network, which would further enhance Hong Kongˇ¦s status as an international transportation and aviation hub.
