Hong Kong emerges as the fastest growing wine hub Hong Kong has emerged as the fastest growing wine hub while China's quest for wine has ousted the United States as Bordeaux's number one client outside Europe, according to a recent AFP dispatch from France's leading wine region Bordeaux. In 2009, wine sales to China increased by 40 per cent to 74 million euros, with volume increasing by an impressive 97 per cent. In the same year, Bordeaux exports to Hong Kong increased 46 per cent to 109 million euros, representing a 24 per cent increase in volume. And 2010 looks bright. Hong Kong serves as a hub for brand visibility Hong Kong's long tradition as a key transportation hub and its position as a world leading trade centre underscored global logistics and transportation provider Aramex announced recently its decision to expand the scope of it's operations in the territory. The expansion will see Aramex's Hong Kong office become an independent business centre and regional hub focused on expanding operations within Hong Kong, increasing its market share for both express and freight, and improving the visibility of the Aramex brand in Asia's most critical trading hub. Hong Kong soon boasts a "green" automobile industry According to a recent report in the Hong Kong Standard, Hong Kong will soon boast a green automatic industry. As a joint venture among Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong, Halo Motor plans to set up a small production line in the next two to three years and aims eventually to churn out 10,000 electric vehicles a year. A research and development centre is also to open in Hong Kong's Science Park by the end of March. A Halo spokesman says the development of green batteries will be handled by Taiwan, while Hong Kong will design and produce prototypes, and the Mainland China will eventually take charge of mass production. As well as creating a Hong Kong brand for electric vehicle technology and manufacturing, Halo predicts earnings of US$10 billion (HK$78 billion) a year and the creation of 100,000 jobs when its plans for an industrial park for electric vehicles bear fruit. |
