Situation report on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in Hong Kong

The following is jointly issued by the Department of Health and the Hospital Authority of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR):

In Hong Kong, there is one new confirmed case of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) today (June 11). This is the 27th consecutive day on which the number of cases has fallen below 5 since May 16.

Today's case involved a 33-year-old man who was admitted to United Christian Hospital on June 3 and transferred to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital on June 4. He is now in stable condition. His family members are asymptomatic.

The number of patients recovered and discharged from hospital continues to rise to 1374. Of them, six were discharged today.

The number of SARS patients in intensive care unit is 17. These cases are part of the 60 cases under treatment in hospitals. Most of the patients are showing positive responses to the treatment protocol. In addition, 30 are recovering patients in convalescence and in preparation for discharge.

One patient with underlying disease died in Tuen Mun Hospital (TMH). This brought to 291 the total number of deaths relating to SARS in Hong Kong. Her information is as follows:
