Jackie Chan hails success of film industry in Asia’s World City
Press Release - November 22, 2001
The success of Hong Kong’s film industry is in no small part due to the favourable business environment that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government has created for all to compete in a level playing field, world-renowned actor, Mr Jackie Chan, said today (November 22).
"The Hong Kong Government also maintains a free environment where we can pursue our projects without interference. No wonder Hong Kong is ‘Asia’s world city’," he told the Canadian media during a visit to the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Toronto.
Welcoming Jackie Chan, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), Mrs Rosanna Ure, paid tribute to the work done by professionals in the Hong Kong film industry. Hong Kong film is one of the best known products overseas and the industry is a very important sector in the Hong Kong economy.
"In a way, Jackie Chan embodies the Hong Kong spirit – our can-do attitude, our flexible and pragmatic way of doing business, and our creative and ingenious approach to overcome difficulties – which makes Hong Kong products and services highly competitive in the global market," Mrs Ure said.
Mr Jackie Chan is currently in Toronto doing the location filming of his latest production "Tuxedo". Today, he specially took time out to call on the HKETO Director, Mrs Rosanna Ure, and to congratulate the HKETO on its 10th anniversary.
He also pledged his full support to the Hong Kong Arts Festival organized by the HKETO currently held in Toronto and commended it for its success in promoting Hong Kong’s arts and culture to the Canadian community.
