Hong Kong Exhibition Proven An Instant Success in Calgary
Press Release - January 24, 2002
The 'Living in Hong Kong Past and Present' photo exhibition now on public display in Calgary has proven to be an instant success. Since its launch last Wednesday (January 16), the exhibition has attracted about 30,000 Calgarians to sample Hong Kongs past and present in all aspects of its daily life.
Being held at Chinook Centre, Calgary, the exhibition enables Calgarians to appreciate the development of Hong Kong Asia's world city - through the display of an unique collection of nostalgic and modern photos, which depicts life in Hong Kong in the 1950s to the present days. Arranged under the themes of 'Dressing', 'Eating', 'Living' and 'Commuting', the exhibition of some 80 photos represents a transition of the vibrant city over the past 50 years.
"As the organizer, we are very pleased that the exhibition has received such an overwhelming response from the Calgary community. Hong Kong, as a place where East meets West, has a uniquely rich and diversified cultural life. While our mandate is to promote business links with Canada, we would also like to introduce to Canadians, through the launch of the 'Living in Hong Kong' photo exhibition, the great variety and richness of the citys arts and culture," Mrs Rosanna Ure, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), said today (January 24).
The 'Living in Hong Kong Past and Present' photo exhibition was brought to Calgary and was opened on January 16 at the official send-off for the Calgary Stampede to Hong Kong.
Oganized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) and Hong Kong Tourism Board, in conjunction with the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association (Calgary section), the exhibition will remain open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. until January 27. "Judging from the daily visitor flow, we estimate that 40,000 visitors have seen the photos when the exhibition concludes on January 27. This figure represents almost one in every 20 people in Calgary has seen the exhibition," Mrs Ure added.
To add colour to the event, an indoor mini-golf 'Hole-in-one' charity competition will be held on January 26 and 27 at Chinook Centre, the exhibition venue, to raise funds for the Kids Cancer Foundation.
Visitors stand a good opportunity of winning a free return air ticket with complimentary hotel accommodation to Hong Kong valued at more than C$4,500.
This function is sponsored by Cathay Pacific Airways and Marco Polo Hotels. The media sponsors are Calgary Sun, Fairchild TV, Fairchild Radio and Sing Tao Daily.
