Hong Kong Contemporary Films Kicks Off at VAFF

To promote Hong Kong�s contemporary films in Vancouver, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO) is co-organizing a �Hong Kong Spotlight: Gems from Asia�s Hollywood� with the Vancouver Asian Film Festival (VAFF) at Cinemark Tinseltown Theatre from today (November 1) to November 4, showcasing four of Hong Kong�s recent outstanding contemporary films.
�Hong Kong Spotlight: Gems from Asia�s Hollywood� is the fourth component of the �Hong Kong - From Reel to Real� Promotion in Vancouver organized by the HKETO from October 24 to November 4 to mark the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Addressing the audience before the premiere show �Hollywood Hong Kong�, the Director of the HKETO, Mrs Rosanna Ure, said: �Hong Kong has been a culture and entertainment hub of Asia. And there is nothing more representative of our cultural industry than our vibrant film industry.
�In recent decades, we have produced a number of talented directors and actors who have gained widespread recognition for their creativity and inspiration, and have made their way to Hollywood.�
We hope that featuring their work would further promote the Hong Kong film industry and its position as Asia�s Hollywood, she added.
Apart from the premiere film �Hollywood Hong Kong� (directed by Fruit Chan), which was shown this evening, the other three films featured at this year�s VAFF �Hong Kong Spotlight: Gems from Asia�s Hollywood� are:
Film titles - Screening date and time: 2002 - Saturday, November 2 - 9:30 pm July Rhapsody - Sunday, November 3 - 4:00 pm Midnight Fly - Monday, November 4 - 7:00 pm
The other three events of the �Hong Kong: From Reel to Real� Promotion in Vancouver are: a large-scale photo exhibition on Hong Kong�s infrastructure at UBC Robson Square which will last until November 4, as well as a seminar on action film production and a Kung Fu film series which already have been concluded.
The �Hong Kong � From Reel to Real� Promotion is supported by Fairchild Television, Talentvision, AM1470, FM96.1 and Ming Pao as its media sponsors while the Long Shong Group rendered assistance in the Kung Fu film series.
