The Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Mr Antony Leung, will visit Toronto on September 30 as part of a five-day visit to the United States and Canada. This will be his first visit to Canada since his appointment in May 2001.

In his 5-day trip, Mr Leung will meet with a wide range of key personalities and opinion formers to provide an update on the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems" in Hong Kong. He will seize the opportunity to impress upon them how Hong Kong rises up to the challenges and opportunities arising from economic restructuring and economic integration with the Mainland of China, and continues to be a thriving international financial and business centre in the region.

In Toronto on September 30, Mr Leung will attend various roundtable discussions with senior executives of major Canadian banks, financial services companies and especially, those who have a special interest in the economic, financial and political developments in Hong Kong. Mr Leung will also meet with Hong Kong students studying in universities of Greater Toronto Area.

During his visit, Mr Leung will deliver a number of keynote speeches and brief a wide cross-section of the international media about the latest situation of Hong Kong.

Before visiting Toronto, Mr Leung will attend the Opening Ceremony of the Annual Meetings of the IMF and World Bank Group in Washington D.C.

En route to the IMF/World Bank Group meetings, Mr Leung will visit San Francisco from September 26 to 28 where he will meet with bankers, business leaders, economists, financial analysts and members of think tanks. These will include a breakfast meeting with the Pacific Council on International Policy, a roundtable discussion with Asian American bankers and a dinner with key personalities of the Bay Area financial circle.

Mr Leung will leave Toronto in the evening of September 30 for Hong Kong.
