Hong Kong Commerce Secretary meets Mayor Campbell of Vancouver

The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr John Tsang, today (April 27) met with the Mayor of Vancouver, Mr Larry Campbell who is in Hong Kong for a five-day visit to enhance the already close ties between the two cities.

Mr Tsang took the opportunity to brief the Vancouver Mayor on the latest trade and economic developments in Hong Kong and how Canadian investors could leverage on the excellent business opportunities brought by the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) which was signed between Hong Kong and Mainland China last June and which took effect in January this year.

During his stay in Hong Kong, Mayor Campbell will meet with the Secretary for Justice, Ms Elsie Leung, the Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, the Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs, Ms Shelley Lee, the Permanent Secretary for Financial Services and Treasury, Mr Tony Miller, the Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Miss Sandra Lee, and senior representatives of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council as well as the Canadian Consul General in Hong Kong, Mr Tony Burger, and the Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Mr David Armitage.

Mayor Campbell will visit the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, the Container Terminal, the Cyperport and Hong Kong�s Southern District. He will also attend the launching ceremony of the Avenue of Stars as an honoured guest of the Home Affairs Bureau.

Mayor Campbell and the City Government of Vancouver have been rendering strong support to the Hong Kong Ballet�s Vancouver Performance scheduled for May 14 at Queen Elizabeth Theatre in support of the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Vancouver. This unique performance �Legend of the Great Archer� which is the world�s first full-length ballet to be accompanied by Chinese music, is also part of the �Relaunch Hong Kong� promotion organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada).
