HK Wushu Team on Goodwill Mission in Edmonton

Following a successful tour in Calgary, the Hong Kong Wushu Delegation continued its visit to Alberta today (Feb 9) with a four-day Goodwill mission in Edmonton as part of a �Relaunch Hong Kong� promotion organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO) to promote cultural exchange and to restore confidence in Hong Kong.
Led by the HKETO Director, Mr Bassanio So, the delegation started the visit by calling on the Deputy Mayor, Michael Phair, who hosted a reception to officially welcome the Hong Kong visitors on behalf of the Edmonton City Government.
They also visited the Edmonton Police Department and met representatives of the local martial arts associations at a reception in the Edmonton City Hall. After their arrival late yesterday afternoon, they met the local Chinese community at a dinner party and were given a hearty welcome.
Tomorrow (Feb 10), delegation members, comprising medal winners of Asian Games and international Wushu competitions, will visit the University of Alberta and the Edmonton Chinese Cultural Centre for demonstrations and experience sharing sessions.
As part of the promotion, the HKETO will organize a half-day business seminar tomorrow afternoon in conjunction with the Hong Kong Canada Business Association, Edmonton, to promote the excellent opportunities available to Canadian businesses under the framework of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement signed between Hong Kong and Mainland China.
On Wednesday (Feb 11), they will join local Wushu masters in staging the �Hong Kong � Alberta Wushu Spectacular� to raise funds for the University of Alberta�s School of Business in setting up a scholarship fund for Hong Kong-related studies.
The delegation will leave for Hong Kong on Thursday (Feb 12).
The Hong Kong Wushu Delegation�s visit to Calgary and Edmonton is arranged by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the HKETO of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
