Finale Wushu Performance Thrills Edmontonians
Press Release - February 11, 2004
The Hong Kong Wushu Delegation successfully concluded its visit to Alberta this (Feb 11) evening by staging a spectacular Wushu performance at the Edmonton Shaw Convention Centre to the great delight of the Edmonton community who applauded the performance as one of the best in town in recent years.
Joined by local Wushu masters, award-winning members of the visiting Hong Kong Wushu Delegation, including Changquan silver medal winner To Yu-hang, King of Nanquan Chang Ka-ho and King of Sword Chow Ting-yu, thrilled Edmontonians with a 2-hour Hong Kong-Alberta Wushu Spectacular and gave them a breath-taking experience.
Presented by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO) and produced by the Fairchild Media Group, the Wushu performance was part of the Relaunch Hong Kong promotion to enhance closer ties between Hong Kong and Edmonton and to restore confidence in Hong Kong after last years SARS outbreak.
With the full support of the local community, the Wushu performance succeeded in raising CAD$23,000 in support of the University of Albertas School of Business in setting up a scholarship fund for Hong Kong-related studies.
At the start of the Wushu performance, the HKETO Director, Mr Bassanio So, presented a cheque to the Assistant Dean of the University of Albertas School of Business, Mr Edy Wong. The Alberta Minister of Health and Wellness, the Hon Gary Mar, and the Edmonton Deputy Mayor, Mr Terry Cavanagh, honoured the cheque presentation with their presence as witnesses.
The Hong Kong Wushu Delegation will leave Edmonton for Hong Kong tomorrow (Feb 12) morning.
The delegations 10-day visit to Alberta was arranged by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the HKETO of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.
It was supported by the Fairchild Media Group, the Edmonton Scotia Bank, the Wing Kei Nursing Home, the Bethany Care Centre, the United Way of Calgary, the University of Albertas School of Business, and the Hong Kong Canada Business Associations in Calgary and Edmonton.
