HK-Toronto-Vancouver Career Video Conference to Help HK Students in Canada

A cross-continent career video conference which aims to explore career opportunities in Hong Kong for Hong Kong university students studying in Canada will be held this Friday (March 5). Some 300 Hong Kong students from universities in both the east and west coast will take part.

Following the success of last year�s pilot initiative, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO) and the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau (CITB) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government, will organize the coming video conference to cater not only for Hong Kong students in Toronto and Ontario but also for those in British Columbia.

With the aim to attract and encourage foreign-trained talents to return to Hong Kong, the career video conference will be held simultaneously this Friday at 7:30 pm (Toronto time) at the HKETO, 4:30 pm (Vancouver time) at Asia Pacific Hall, Wosk Centre for Dialogue at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver and 8:30 am (Hong Kong time) on March 6 at the Conference Room of CITB in Hong Kong. It will provide useful career information and advice on the career opportunities available in specific sectors in Hong Kong by distinguished speakers who will also share with them invaluable advice on the current situation in related job markets.

The video conference held in Toronto and Vancouver will be hosted respectively by the Director of the HKETO, Mr Bassanio So, and HKETO�s Principal Communications Consultant in Vancouver, Mrs Catherine Yuen. The Deputy Secretary of the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau, Mr Raymond Young, will host the video conference in Hong Kong.

Four distinguished guest speakers from the private sectors will participate as panelists. They are: Mr Johnson Kong, Partner of BDO McCabe Lo & Co; Mr. George Leung, Chief Economist, Hong Kong Bank Corporation; Mr Andy Wong, Assistant Product Manager, Projects, Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd and Mr Ricky Long, Human Resources Director, Asia Pacific, Sybase Inc.

Hong Kong students who will participate in the video conference come from the following universities: University of Toronto, University of Waterloo, University of Western Ontario, York University, Ryerson University, Queen�s University, McMaster University and Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia and University of Victoria in Vancouver.

The video conference will also be �live� webcasted by Radio Television Hong Kong�s (RTHK) (www.rthk.org.hk) �RTHK On Internet�. In addition, Fairchild Radio in Toronto and Vancouver will tape the event for broadcast in the following week. Details of such broadcast will be announced separately.
