Secretary for Home Affairs launches Hong Kong Ballet's North America Premiere

Hong Kong�s Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr. Patrick Ho, officiated at the North America premiere of Hong Kong Ballet�s new repertoire �Legend of the Great Archer� in Toronto this (May 7) evening when the ballet performed to a full house at the City�s St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts.

Organised by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada) (HKETO), the Hong Kong Ballet�s North America Premiere aims to promote cultural ties between Hong Kong and Canada and to enhance confidence in Hong Kong after last year�s SARS challenge.

As Hong Kong�s contribution to Canadian culture, the HKETO jointly presented this uniquely dynamic ballet performance with the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM) in support of Renaissance ROM�s China Initiative.

Dr. Ho hosted a pre-performance reception for some 200 distinguished guests including senior officials from the three levels of Canadian government, politicians, business and community leaders and representatives of leading cultural organizations as well as sponsors and supporters. He later attended as the Guest of Honour, the post-performance Gala Dinner hosted by the ROM�s Hong Kong Ballet Organising Committee.

Earlier today, Dr. Ho met with the Board of Directors of the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association in Toronto to update them of the latest developments in Hong Kong, including economic and trade situations and cultural initiatives.

He later met with Mayor David Miller of the City of Toronto for a brief discussion to enhance closer Hong Kong-Toronto ties.

Dr. Ho also visited the Centre for Information and Community Services where he was briefed on settlement services for new Chinese immigrants in Ontario.

The Secretary for Home Affairs will be the Guest of Honour at the Imperial Ball 2004 organised by the Chinese Cultural Centre of Greater Toronto on May 8. He will also officiate at the charity �Fun Run and Walk 2004� organized by the Mon Sheong Foundation on Sunday (May 9) at Milliken District Park.

Dr. Ho will leave for Hong Kong on Sunday evening.

Secretary Ho met with the Toronto Mayor David Miller this (May 7) morning to to enhance closer ties between Hong Kong and Toronto.
