With him were the Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Science Technology Park Corporation, Mr C.D. Tam, and the Co-ordinator of Hong Kong Cyberport, Mrs Betty Fung.

As well as visiting Canadian companies in British Columbia interested in investing in Hong Kong, Mr Rowse, with the full support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office, organized a business seminar entitled “Hong Kong – Your Portal to China” with the British Columbia Technology Industry Association, the Science Council of British Columbia and the Wireless Innovation Network of British Columbia.

Already the world’s largest electronic product manufacturer and on the way to becoming the largest technology consumer, China dazzles the world. Yet, the road is not without challenges and many international companies use Hong Kong as a base to tackle the China market with success. The seminar introduced British Columbia technology companies to ways in which they can use Hong Kong as a portal from which to reach out and penetrate the China market. Many participants expressed interest in Hong Kong’s excellent technology infrastructure, such as the Cyberport and the Science and Technology Park.

Joining the speakers from Hong Kong was Mr David Brown, Corporate Vice President of Business Strategy of CREO (a BC-based imaging and software technology company), who also shared his company’s experience and strategies for doing business in Hong Kong, Mainland China and Asia-Pacific.

At noon, Mr Rowse hosted a business luncheon in conjunction with the Business Council of British Columbia and the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, for leading business executives.

During the luncheon, Mr Rowse presented the newly published Canadian Community Handbook, which was produced by Invest Hong Kong and the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong. The handbook contains a directory of Canadian companies operating in Hong Kong and recommendations for Canadian corporations and their senior management who are considering relocating to Hong Kong.
