A
large-scale Hong Kong promotional program, featuring a photo exhibition and
a Chinese Spring Lantern Festival, was staged at Calgary’s Chinook Centre in
February.
Jointly presented by the HKETO and the Fairchild Media Group, the “Hong Kong
and Calgary – Cities of Dynamism” event is an effort to promote closer ties
between the two cities and is one of the major promotional activities
undertaken by HKETO in Canada in 2003.
The photo exhibition, “Building a Dynamic Hong Kong”, showcased Hong Kong’s
major infrastructure achievements of the past 5 years and plans for the next
decade. With its focus on future developments, the Director of the HKETO,
Mrs Rosanna Ure said: “The exhibition outlines the excellent business
opportunities for Canadian companies in Calgary, particularly those in
engineering, architectural, construction and landscaping sectors.”
At the exhibition’s opening ceremony, Mrs Ure was joined by the Hon Gary
Mar, Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Wayne Cao, MLA Calgary Fort, and
the Fairchild Media Group’s Alberta Regional Manager, Ms Christine Leung.
Large
audiences were attracted to the Chinese Spring Lantern Festival, staged in
the Chinook Centre, where beautifully decorated lanterns and many
traditional Chinese cultural performances were featured.
Fairchild Radio presented a four-hour remote broadcast from the Chinook
Centre, with a game booth and quizzes designed to test the public’s
knowledge about Hong Kong. The highlight was the Spring Lantern Festival
Lucky Draw. Katherine Wong, a native Canadian from a Hong Kong immigrant’s
family, was the lucky winner of the grand prize - a return air ticket from
Calgary to Hong Kong.
“Hong Kong and Calgary – Cities of Dynamism” was sponsored by Treasure of
China Seafood House and Tour East Holidays and supported by the Hong Kong
Canada Business Association, Calgary. Media sponsors were the Calgary Sun,
Trend Weekly and Sing Tao Daily.
