Following
its successful launch in Calgary, the HKETO took the “Building a Dynamic
Hong Kong” photo exhibition to Edmonton to strengthen the economic and
business ties between Hong Kong and Edmonton.
Held at the Edmonton City Centre from February 28 to March 13, the promotion
was kicked off with a business seminar co-organized by the HKETO, the
Alberta Ministry of Economic Development and the Hong Kong-Canada Business
Association in Edmonton.
Titled “A New Area of Growth for Canadian Business in Hong Kong and Pearl
River Delta”, the seminar brought together the Director of the HKETO, Mrs
Rosanna Ure, and the Deputy Minister of Alberta Ministry of Economic
Development, Mr Barry Mehr, along with other guest speakers to share their
perspectives on the huge potential for a stronger Canadian business presence
in the region.
The
opening ceremony of the photo exhibition provided the ideal venue for the
unveiling of “Brand Hong Kong”. This new global identity, composed of the
Chinese characters for “Hong Kong” and the letters “H” and “K”, reflects
Hong Kong’s unique blend of East and West.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Ure invited interested Edmonton companies to
take part in building Hong Kong as Asia’s world city and strengthening its
role as the business and logistics hub of the Asia Pacific region.
Mrs Ure was joined at the ceremony by Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mr
Bob Maskell, representing the Premier and Alberta Government, Director,
Business Attraction of Economic Development Edmonton, Mr Kent McMullin, who
represented the Edmonton City Government, and the Alberta Regional Manager
of the Fairchild Media Group, Ms Christine Leung.
The promotional event was supported by Edmonton’s Bank of Nova Scotia as
logistics sponsor.
