The Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, described the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) between Hong Kong Cyberport and Canada’s Telecommunications Research Laboratories as “an important milestone in forging closer ties between and Canada”.
The Hong Kong Wireless Development Centre opened in December, 2003. Mr Tsang described this MOU signed in January, 2004 as “the first step taken by the Wireless Development Centre to establish its footing outside Hong Kong. I fully endorse the Centre’s vision to become the wireless hub in Asia and to play a part in the international wireless arena.”
Mr Tsang emphasized the Hong Kong Government’s commitment to wireless technology and to supporting the development of digital entertainment in Hong Kong.
He pointed out that the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) MOU signed between Hong Kong and Canada in May 1998 provides a framework for collaboration in the ICT field between both location’s public, private and academic sectors. And Mr Tsang encouraged Canadian companies to benefit from the implementation of CEPA by partnering with Hong Kong service providers to take advantage of the enormous potential offered by this unique arrangement.
