HKETO Visit Strengthens Manitoba Ties

HKETO Director, Mr Bassanio So (middle),  met with Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs and Trade, the Hon MaryAnn Mihychuk (left), and Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, Manitoba, the Hon Tim Sale (right) during his visit to Winnipeg to update them on the latest developments in Hong Kong.

During a 2-day visit to Winnipeg, the Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), Mr Bassanio So, met numerous government ministers and businesspeople to foster closer ties between Hong Kong and Manitoba.

Accompanied by his Deputy, Mr Kenneth Cheng, Mr So met with the Manitoba Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs & Trade and Minister responsible for International Relation Co-ordination, the Hon MaryAnn Mihychuk, and the Minister of Energy, Science and Technology, the Hon Tim Sale. 

The chief topic under discussion was the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement signed between Hong Kong and Mainland China, specifically, its potential to benefit Canadian companies by granting them faster access to the Mainland China market.

At a breakfast seminar organized in conjunction with the Hong Kong-Canada Business Association, Mr So advised Canadian business people to partner with Hong Kong to make good use of the CEPA benefits to enter the huge China market.

Mr So also met with Deputy Mayor Dan Vandal, City of Winnipeg, Mr Stuart Duncan, CEO of Destination Winnipeg, City of Winnipeg Economic/Tourism Development Agency, and Mr Graham Starmer, President, Manitoba Chamber of Commerce.
