Messages from Ministers and Leaders:
I want to thank all the health care workers in Ontario and Hong Kong for their stellar performance in battling the SARS outbreak. From emergency workers, such as firefighters and policemen, to doctors and nurses, to respiratory therapists, to every volunteer who has screened incoming traffic at hospitals - you have all demonstrated heroic qualities. Your commitment, dedication and compassion truly make health care professionals role models and everyday heroes. As the Minister of Health and Long Term Care and as a father of three young children, thank you for what you have done since SARS landed in Ontario and in Hong Kong.
Honourable Tony Clement
Minister of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario
I am so pleased to have this opportunity to acknowledge, on behalf of all British Columbians, the immense contribution health care professionals have given to our province, as well as our country and the world in stemming the spread of SARS.
We know we face a sustained battle, but with the expertise and dedication of health care professionals, everyone can be rest assured that SARS will continue to be closely monitored and everything necessary will be done to control this public health threat.
British Columbia will continue to work cooperatively with every jurisdiction in Canada and around the world to prevent and contain the spread of SARS.
Yours truly,
Honourable Sindi Hawkins
Minister of Health Planning, B.C.
Health care workers in Canada and Hong Kong have been at the centre of storm in the battle against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome. They have been faced with the most difficult and trying circumstances, and many of them have found themselves becoming patients. Their professionalism and selfless commitment to the people of Canada and Hong Kong has been inspiring. Without their tireless efforts, there is no telling how much more terrible this outbreak could have been. Despite the all too real risks, the men and women of the health care profession have gone into work every day, showing all of us their dedication, compassion and courage.
On behalf of the citizens of Calgary Centre and of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to all of the men and women who have aided in the fight against SARS and worked so hard to help us overcome this outbreak.
Honourable Joe Clark, MP
Leader, Progressive Conservative Party of Canada
Messages from Co-organizers:
As Canadian citizens and alumni of universities of Hong Kong, we are concerned about the occurrence of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in many parts of the world. Living in Canada, we experience first hand how life is affected by SARS. We understand.
We wish to pay tribute to the devotion, expertise and sacrifice given by men and women in the health care professions and related scientific fields in Canada and Hong Kong, who have alerted us of the disease, delivered treatment and care to patients, discovered the causative agent and its genome, introduced measures to prevent the spread of disease and ceaselessly searched for effective diagnostic test, vaccines and therapeutic agents for the ultimate control of the disease.
We are deeply touched by the dauntless and selfless spirit of the front-line medical professionals in Hong Kong and Canada. A big salute to you, great heroes and heroines of our time!!
