Research Paper Points to Hong Kong As Gateway to China

Many companies have found that the best way to learn about the Chinese market and lower the level of risks is by using Hong Kong as a gateway, according to a research paper recently published by The Commercial Service of the USA Department of Commerce.

Welcoming the research findings, the Director-General of Investment Promotion at Invest Hong Kong, Mr Mike Rowse, said they demonstrate that Hong Kong’s unique position as the gateway to China for foreign companies had once again been recognised by the international business community.

The paper highlighted a number of advantages to doing business in Hong Kong, for example, Hong Kong’s geographical location, exclusive Mainland market access benefits under CEPA, the open market economy, low level of corruption and Hong Kong’s experience in dealing with the Mainland.

According to the paper, “Ease of doing business in Hong Kong is on par with the U.S., and Hong Kong Chinese can provide experience, knowledge and important contacts in China.”

“The Hidden Costs of Doing Business in China” was written by Professor Regina E. Grantz. It is available at: www.buyusa.gov/hongkong/en/marketresearch.html
