Hong Kong has once again retained its rank as the world’s freest economy, according to the “Economic Freedom of the World
2003 Annual Report", released on July 8 by the American Cato Institute in conjunction with Canada’s Fraser Institute and some
50 other research institutes around the world.
Hong Kong has been in first place in each report since the index of economic freedom was first published in 1996.
Hong Kong also ranks first in “size of government", “freedom to exchange with
foreigners" and “regulation of credit, labour
and business."
The Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), Mrs. Rosanna Ure said: “The fact that Hong Kong retains its
position as the world’s freest economy illustrates its distinctive advantages and competitiveness and further proves that
Hong Kong is the ideal place for doing business, especially for foreign
companies."
