Hong Kong’s Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr John Tsang, painted a rosy picture for the Hong Kong film
industry upon the implementation on January 1 of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between Mainland and Hong
Kong.
“CEPA will not only facilitate Hong Kong film industry’s entry into the Mainland, it will also provide opportunities for
overseas companies to collaborate with their counterparts in Hong Kong to explore the vast Mainland
market," Mr Tsang said.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th Hong Kong International Film and TV Market (FILMART) on September 24, Secretary
Tsang said: “The Hong Kong Government is committed to promoting the development of our film industry, and the holding of the
annual FILMART is an important element in this overall strategy.
“Through this event, we are able to bring together overseas and Mainland delegates with the local film industry to explore
collaboration and business opportunities."
Mr Tsang expressed his hope that the implementation of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) would see more
overseas companies collaborating with their Hong Kong counterparts, not only to produce more high-quality artistic creations,
but to venture into a huge market of film lovers in China.
