The first large-scale promotional event aimed at Quebec City received a very warm reception when it opened August 13 at
ExpoCite.
“Hong Kong and Quebec City - Friendship and Partnership" comprising a business seminar and the “Building a Dynamic Hong
Kong" photo exhibition, was organized by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Canada), with the full support of the Quebec
City Government.
The exhibition launch was officiated by the Mayor of Quebec City, Jean-Paul L’Allier, the President of
ExpoCite Claude
Larose, and HKETO Director, Mrs Rosanna Ure. Introducing the promotion, Mrs Ure urged interested Quebec companies to take
part in the business ventures that are arising out of the Hong Kong SAR Government’s investment of $120 billion in some 1,600
infrastructure projects in the next ten years.
“As the world’s freest economy and a vibrant and sophisticated international financial and business centre, Hong Kong’s
strategic location and international networks, as well as experience and expertise in dealing with foreign and China business
make us the preferred destination for international investors," she said.
Prior to the 12-day photo exhibition, a business seminar at the Salle du Conseil of Quebec City Hall was jointly hosted by
Mrs Ure and the Vice President of the Quebec City Executive Committee Claude Larose. Attendees were apprised of the excellent
business opportunities in Hong Kong, due to its position as the hub of the Pearl River Delta Region in China and to Hong Kong’s close economic integration with China.
Participants were also briefed about how foreign companies could leverage Hong Kong’s advantages under the Closer Economic
Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) framework. Under CEPA, Hong Kong companies and services providers will be permitted earlier
access to the Mainland market, ahead of China’s WTO timetable.
