Central People’s Government Continues to Support HK

President Hu Jintao (right) met the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, during Mr Tung's duty visit to Beijing last month.

The Central People’s Government will continue its determined support for Hong Kong to ensure its long-term prosperity and Hong Kong should capitalize on its strengths to revive the economy and facilitate stable development.

This was the message from President Hu Jintao, who met the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, in Beijing early this month.

Mr Hu pointed out that under Mr Tung’s leadership, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has been working hard to improve people’s livelihood and the economy, as well as to ensure the community’s stability.

Moreover, the signing of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) between Hong Kong and the Mainland has further boosted the economy and people’s confidence.

He hoped the HKSAR Government would continue to bolster its communication with different sectors of the community and provide better services to the public.

Mr Hu also called on Hong Kong people to seize the opportunities and capitalize on our advantages so as to further sharpen our competitive edge.

On Hong Kong’s constitutional development, Mr Hu said the Central People’s Government is highly concerned with the issue, adding that the development should be in line with the Basic Law and a progressive approach should be adopted.

He believed that the Hong Kong community could reach a consensus on the issue.
