Royal Bank of Canada Granted Licence

The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), increasing the number of licensed banks in Hong Kong to 134.The Hong Kong Monetary Authority has granted a banking licence to Royal Bank of Canada (RBC), effective December 5, 2003. According to the July 2003 issue of The Banker, RBC was the largest bank in Canada and the 51st largest bank in the world in terms of both tier one capital and total assets.

The number of licensed banks in Hong Kong now stands at 134.
