2005 WinterFest Bigger Than Ever

The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) celebrates the Canadian launch of its global "2006 Discover Hong Kong Year" campaign. Ms Photo shows (from left) Ms Clara Chong, Executive Director of HKTB; Mr Ben Mulroney, popular TV host and newspaper columnist; Mr Ross Cronin of Cathay Pacific Airways; and Mr Bassanio So, HKETO Director, toasting to the success of the campaign at the launch in Toronto.
Hong Kong’s 2005 WinterFest calendar features an expanded Santa’s Town, a wider range of festive family activities and involvement from more industry partners than ever before.

Running from November 25 to January 2, 2006, WinterFest has the potential to “attract even more visitors than the 2.55 million last year,” says Ms Clara Chong, Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) Executive Director.

Already popular with visitors from short-haul markets, the appeal of WinterFest is being promoted by the HKTB to overseas markets, in a bid to make Hong Kong the focus of Christmas and New Year celebrations in Asia.

Once again, Santa’s Town will transform Hong Kong’s central business district into a picturesque European-style town. Inside Santa’s Lodge and Santa’s Workshop, children can have photos taken with Santa Claus, learn
to bake Christmas treats and see an exhibition of Madame Tussaud’s wax figures. The 35-metre tall Dazzling Christmas Tree will feature nightly musical performances.

There is something for everyone at 2005 WinterFest. Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the Hong Kong Open Golf tournament, horse racing at the Hong Kong International Races and cycling action at the 10th Tour of the South
China Sea. As well, Luciano Pavarotti brings his Farewell Tour to Hong Kong. Families will find thrilling fun at Ocean Park’s Christmas Sensation, and the 4th Asia Game Show & Digital Entertainment Expo Asia 2005 is
sure to attract a big crowd.

Some 4,000 merchant outlets and restaurants are joining in the festive spirit, offering shopping and dining privileges to WinterFest visitors.
