Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jackie Chan Fight Piracy

The Governor of the State of California, the United States of America, the Honorable Arnold Schwarzenegger and movie star Mr Jackie Chan join hand to fight piracy and promote the respect of intellectual property rights in Hong Kong. Two of the world’s best-known action stars have joined forces against intellectual property piracy. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California, and movie star Jackie Chan feature in a new TV Announcement in the Public Interest (API) designed to combat piracy and promote respect for intellectual property rights.

The API was developed by Hong Kong’s Intellectual Property Department (IPD) and the California Commission for Jobs and Economic Growth (CAJOBS).

The TV spot was launched November 18 at a luncheon organized by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce (HKGCC) and the Amercian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong (AmCham), in co-operation with the IPD and CAJOBS.

Speaking at the luncheon, the Director of Intellectual Property, Mr Stephen Selby, said, “Apart from effective enforcement measures to combat piracy and counterfeiting, a soft-sell approach like this API is an additional measure to bring this message to the public."

"Stamping out piracy is good for trade, good for our economies and good for consumers," Mr Schwarzenegger said. The Governor was on a visit to China and Hong Kong, to promote California goods and services.

Co-chairman of CAJOBS, Mr Warren Hellman said, "I congratulate Governor Schwarzenegger, the Hong Kong SAR Intellectual Property Department and Jackie Chan for taking on this illegal and immoral practice."

The API was directed by Jonathan Mostow, the director of the movie, "Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines". It is being shown on local & regional TV stations and on buses.
