Hong Kong Disneyland will welcome its first guests on September 12, 2005, earlier than originally projected. The theme park and resort, located on Lantau Island, will be Disney’s first such facility in China, and will offer magical family experiences, ranging from Broadway-style shows and signature Disney attractions to vibrant fireworks and parades.
“We have been working closely with the Hong Kong SAR Government to make Hong Kong Disneyland a success, and we are grateful for their tremendous support in helping us deliver the magic even earlier than expected,” said Don Robinson, Hong Kong Disneyland Group Managing Director.
Henry Tang, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, said that Hong Kong Disneyland’s opening would be a “driving force for tourism growth for Hong Kong, and family tourism development in particular.
“In its first 40 years after opening, Hong Kong Disneyland is forecast to bring about a huge economic benefit of HK$148 billion (CAD$24.6 billion) to Hong Kong as a whole,” said Mr. Tang.
Families visiting the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort will be taken on a magical journey through three themed lands, a charming Main Street U.S.A. and two Disney-style hotels. Two of the many featured attractions expected to enthrall thousands of guests on a daily basis are the Jungle River Cruise and Festivals of the Lion King.
