T he Central Government of the People’s Republic of China accepted the resignation of the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, on March 12. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Donald Tsang, has temporarily assumed the duties of the Chief Executive.
Mr. Tung, who was recently elected Vice Chairman at the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference in Beijing, thanked the Central Government for its support and called on the
community to support the Acting Chief Executive.
Hong Kong’s next Chief Executive will be elected on July 10. All Executive Councillors and principal officials will remain in office until the new Chief Executive is elected. The Government is operating smoothly and normally.
