For the first time, Asia's film and entertainment industries were united under an umbrella event known as Entertainment Expo Hong Kong 2005. The mega event, held
March 22 to April 6, brought together Hong Kong's leading entertainment activities, including the prestigious International Film Festival.
The line-up also included FILMART, with the accompanying Hong Kong-Asia Film Financing Forum; the Hong Kong Digital Entertainment Excellence Awards; the
Digital Entertainment Leadership Forum and the Hong Kong Film Awards Presentation Ceremony, Top Sales Music Award and the Independent Short Film and
Video Awards.
For visitors to Hong Kong, the 29th International Film Festival was doubtless the highlight. A Canadian tour operator packaged a tour to Hong Kong to include the
Film Awards Presentation Ceremony held on March 27, which was attended by celebrities such as Jackie Chan, Anthony Leung, Wong Kar Wai, Zhang Zi Yi and
other nominees.
A series of programmes celebrating the 100th anniversary of Chinese Cinema included a world premiere of the digitally-remastered version of Center Stage. This
beautifully stylized film, based on the life of the legendary Chinese silent film star Ruan Ling-yu, features a captivating performance by Maggie Cheung, for which she
won a Best Actress Award at the Berlin International Firm Festival.
