Election Makes History
Mr. Donald Tsang Yam Kuen was
re-elected Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region on March
25.
Describing his time on the campaign trail as "the most rewarding chapter of my 40-year career in public service," Mr. Tsang praised the Hong Kong public for taking the electoral process seriously and consistently demonstrating their maturity. "This has made this election very special," he said, "and has laid out a solid foundation for moving toward universal suffrage."
Mr. Tsang remarked that he and his opponent, Mr. Alan Leong, share a common goal: to create a better life for the people of Hong Kong.
He declared his intention to strive to turn his election pledges into reality and asked for the public's cooperation. "This is a partnership project I have with the people of Hong Kong to shape our future and create a quality life for all," he said.
When asked by a reporter how the next Chief Executive will be chosen, Mr. Tsang replied, "They will certainly be elected by the people of Hong Kong."
