China Olympic Medallists Visit Hong Kong

CE Mr Tung Chee Hwa (middle in suit) , greets a delegation of Chinese gold medallists of the 2004 Olympic Games on their arrival at Hong Kong.

China’s Olympic gold medallists paid a three-day visit to Hong Kong in September.

Welcoming the 68-member delegation, the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, said the athletes had fully demonstrated China’s spirit in their relentless quest for excellence.

State General Administration of Sport Director Yuan Weimin, who led the delegation, expressed gratitude for Hong Kong people’s support of the Mainland’s sports activities. He added that Hong Kong’s intention to co-organize some of the 2008 Olympic Games events in Beijing was a good idea.

While in Hong Kong, the Mainland athletes took part in sightseeing tours and attended several functions. They also showcased their skills in sports demonstrations. The highlight of their visit was the China Gold Medallists Extravaganza at Hong Kong Stadium.
