Expansion Continues in Hong Kong’s Business World

Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands has recently moved 400 of its Hong Kong-based staff to a new 72,000 sq ft office at the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park. As a result, the company, Philips Electronics Hong Kong, now operates its own R&D centre, product development, design studio and showrooms under one roof. 

In a meeting with the Hong Kong Chief Executive, Mr Tung Chee Hwa, on August 30, Mr Gerard Kleisterlee, President and CEO of Royal Philips Electronics, spoke of the company’s commitment to creating growth in Hong Kong’s technology sector. He cited the pro-business developments in China and the region, as well as Hong Kong’s excellent infrastructure, central location and talented workforce. 

China’s largest shipbuilding company, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), has opened a Hong Kong operation to serve as a regional office overseeing South East Asian markets.

The Chairman and President of China Shipbuilding & Offshore International (H.K.) Co. Ltd., Mr Xu Ziqui, said at the grand opening of its Hong Kong office on August 20 that Hong Kong’s shipping sector has played a very important role in the development of that industry in China. “Our Hong Kong office will play a key role in connecting the company’s network in the region,” he said. “We believe that advantages of Hong Kong, combined with the solid foundation of our company, will strengthen our competitiveness in the global arena.”

Korean cosmetic brand dodo club opened its first shop in Hong Kong in September and plans to use Hong Kong as a showcase to further develop its Mainland and South Asian markets.

CEO of dodo club, Mr Park Jong Boons, said the company sees great potential for cosmetics products in Hong Kong. Plans include leveraging Hong Kong’s excellent location at the centre of Asia and its unrivalled business-friendly environment to expand its network to neighbouring export markets in South Asia, including Thailand, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
